Hi All , Wasnt sure if this was the best spot to ask about it, but here goes! In Target's latest catalogue they have a Pendo Pad 8" Windows 8.1 tablet for $199. Has: -8" screen 1280 x 800 IPS -Intel Atom Z3735 1.83GHz quadcore -1GB RAM -16GB storage -Bluetooth I understand that Pendo probably arent the best of manufacturers but for the price with local walk-in warranty, is this going to be worth looking at if i am currently looking at chinese Windows 8.1 tablets? Cheers, Glen I picked up a Pendo 8 on a whim to see what $199 can buy. I was surprised by the good construction....rubberized curved one piece back. Slim proportions with a narrow bezel on the sides when held in portrait mode. The screen is IPS LCD I believe and appears crisp and bright. Ports include microsd, microhdmi, OTG USB port, charging port. Buttons for volume, power and button on the side that I didn't realize until later was the Window button (ie. would take you back to the metro interface). Camera's front and back but I've not tried them yet. I was interested to see how things ran on 1GB memory. With only windows running there was about 300MB of memory free according to the task manager. I initially started with about 6 GB of free storage but after performing a windows update, which included almost 1GB of updates downloaded, I was left with little over 3 GB of usable storage on the internal flash. I guess that can be expanded with an external microSD? With only 2 hours of hands on time so far, usability seems find however I haven't loaded any apps yet....only used Internet Explorer. The real issue with the tablet and one that is common to all the 8 inch windows tablets is that it is near impossible to use Windows desktop mode with an 8 inch touch screen. Icons, buttons and selection boxes are the sizes of pin head and I constantly find myself trying multiple times to hit the right selection and often inadvertently press the wrong thing and end up somewhere I didn't want to be. I still need to spend more time with this unit but for an extra $50 you can get the Acer W4 with 2GB memory and 32GB storage which is going to run appreciably better. I picked up a Pendo 8 on a whim to see what $199 can buy. I actually did the same thing, and can fully 100% confirm everything that youve mentioned! Feels nice and not like a completely cheap unit. I thought it ran very well considering the 1GB of RAM. My storage levels were exactly the same as yours before and after updates. I downloaded a couple of apps from the windows store and they seemed to run nicely. Also downloaded a "hill racing" game that i have previously had on my phone – Runs perfectly and tablet doesnt get overly warm. Most heat is near all of the ports. I also inserted a 16GB Micro SD card and it showed up as a second HDD. Im sure i could install apps and games to it but havent got that far yet. Can definitely confirm having to touch things multiple times when on the desktop view due to a very small screen, but i am blown away that something so cheap can run the W8.1 system. Not entirely sure if it is the full Windows OS though, or a dumbed down version like the first windows tablets ran. Tried to install Adobe Lightroom for shits and giggles and was told that the CPU doesnt support it. We actually got 2 of them as they were so cheap and we are going on a couple day holiday this long weekend, one of them was DOA as it only worked when plugged in, battery percentage was read at 80% but would instantly power off. Took it back and Target had us a completely new unit in original packaging within about 4 minutes. More testing later on! Can definitely see a 32gb unit with 2gb of RAM being quite a nice little unit! Would definitely go 10" or bigger for my next Windows tablet though! Really wanted to get a 10" unit from China but believed the support if something was wrong would probably be almost useless. Quite happy to have a local warranty from Target. The real issue with the tablet and one that is common to all the 8 inch windows tablets is that it is near impossible to use Windows desktop mode with an 8 inch touch screen. Doesn't windows have the options to resize the icons/controls to any size you want? Also, does this tablet have wifi? Its not mentioned anywhere, just didn't know it was an assumed inclusion if so. Anyone know its expected battery life? For any 8" screen, I recommend a stylus. I got one from Officeworks for $14.00, and it is very good for hitting them small buttons and thin scrollbars. And no dirty fingerprints on the screen too. http://www.officeworks.com.au/shop/officeworks/targus-tablet-stylus-blue-tamm0103us?searchTerm=stylus EDIT: This Pendo machine has way more ports than Dell/Lenovo/Acer/Asus/Toshiba. They all only have a single microUSB port. So when the charger is plugged into the microUSB port, you can't use the USB. The Pendo has a separate charging port, and that means you can use USB or HDMI to a big monitor at the same time. My Dell Venue Pro 8 doesn't have enough juice to run my external HD on the battery, but if it was plugged into the charger, it'd have enough juice for sure. Don't know why the brand name machines are so limited with ports. Any reports on battery life of this tablet? I am toying with the idea of getting one just to play around with, or maybe even a replacement for my aging Surface RT if it went well enough. The major downer is only 1GB of RAM. How does Win8 go with only 1GB of RAM? Can I get some reports on that? I think I could improve the free space on the system drive too. From the free space reports I am thinking the system drive is not using WIMBoot. If the install was changed to a WIMBoot install I think a reasonable amount of extra free space could be gained off the drive. EDIT: One thing I have noticed is that while the specifications say Bluetooth everywhere. There is no mention of Wifi. Can someone plese tell me that the obvious has just been missed in writing the specs and it does in fact have wifi. Well I weakened today and bought one to play around with. So far for $199 I am impressed. On the one hand you can clearly see some shortcomings compared to a more expensive tablet.. On the other hand..... $199 for an X86 Windows 8.1 Tablet !!! I am currently running Windows Update and as soon as that is done I will do some reviewing. I have the video camera setup on a tripod next to my desk so I will put a video up on Youtube as soon as I am done later this evening I hope. (My first ever video review.) Definitely has WiFi! Battery life is not too bad (considering i have an iPad that lasts forever). i got mine and it was at 80% charge. Did the setup and enabled WiFi right away, downlaoded qbittorent, Chrome, Adblock, some windows store games and apps. Downloaded a torrent, played some music, then played a windows store game, looked all around through the settings, did windows updates and only then was i near 30% charge. I was probably using it for 3 – 4 hours during that time? Doesnt get warm (at least not for what i was doing), no noticable lag with what i was doing (thanks to the Intel Atom CPU). CPU is actually the 1.33GHz model, not 1.8 BUT i saw it hit clock speeds of around 1.8GHz so, it must be set to OC when needed. 1GB of RAM didnt seem to let it down, was all quite smooth! and besides, local warranty is much better than something from China. Screen looks nice and quality feels good. I had to throw a 16GB SD card in as after the updates and some apps, i was at 3GB space free. From standard you get about 6GB free before updates. icons are very small in desktop mode for fingers though, but you get better at it. Overall, $199 – Great :) to help your screen feel; either take off the protective cover or lightly spray Mr.Sheen on it let it dry and buff off it's slippery smooth after that. My other question which I don't think you can answer as you'd have to install it (not something I expect anyone to do) is: Can it run Minecraft?????? lol my kids want my Nexus7 because of it, and I don't mind testing a win8 tablet so if it can do that yay they'll be off my tablet. I reckon this will be a go'er even if it's just for testing the water with. 'Woh! there's my ugly mug...' lol Good first review and I got to see what I wanted out of it, that is the general performance of it and surprisingly it's a little zippy unit, finger manipulation was better than I expected. The browser performance was good to see. After seeing the screen I too think I'd use a stylus and mouse where I can. Thanks again for the effort and time taken to put it up ;) Ok the Minecraft report. Firstly there is no Windows Store version of official Minecraft. (Lots of Minecraft clones though) So I just installed the desktop version, and used an external mouse, with the Pendo Bluetooth keyboard. (Got a replacement this morning for the faulty one) Installed Java and then installed Minecraft. Started it up, and first thing I did was dial the graphics down in settings. I knew with this thing I would not want to leave them set as high as it doesn't have the power to handle that. Created a new world, and off I went. Performance was surprisingly good. A bit of minor lag here and there on a scene with lots of different objects with a lot to render. But I started caving and it ran surprisingly well for such a tiny beast. Once down in the caves there was no real noticeable lag the majority of the time. Still a little bit here and there but not a lot. I still say it is nowhere in the same league as a more expensive tablet. Even the aging Surface RT feels nicer to use. (Except for raw CPU power the Pendo Pad eats the Surface on that) And there is no chance of it replacing my Surface RT for my day to day work. But for a device that is under $200, and you take its price into account it continues to impress me when all things are considered. Oh on the work report. I took it with me today and used the Pendo Pad instead of my Surface for everything today. It handled everything I threw at it without issues as I expected. But the battery life is why I am bringing this up. On an average day I would usually walk in the door at home with the Surface at around 55 to 60% left. I walked in the door with the Pendo Pad on 45%. So I consider that quite respectable. One last thing, I had another thought this afternoon while driving around. Using the Tablet as a Media Player PC. (For those that have all their media stored on a network server or a NAS) My thought was use the Mini HDMI cable out to a TV, a Bluetooth or USB Wireless Keyboard and Mouse, Velcro it to the back of your TV, and it will play just about anything you care to throw at it. All for under $200. It has actually got me tempted to replace my current media player PC with one of these for that reason. It will do everything the current my media player PC does, but it will use a hell of a lot less power at the same time. While taking up a lot less space to boot. Using the Tablet as a Media Player PC. (For those that have all their media stored on a network server or a NAS) indeed I hope it can do some large mkv's that would be the perfect round off. thankyou for that, I've been enjoying the N7 and chromecast, and this tablet for windows will allow me to test a few things. Would you say this would make a decent Minecraft tablet? Minecraft on the go, to match the iOS and Android pocket versions? Definitely not like the iOS and Android versions. There is no Windows Store version of Minecraft, so you need to install the standard PC Desktop version of Minecraft. While it runs the standard PC version of Minecraft to an acceptable level from a graphics and performance point of view. The PC version is not at all designed for a touch interface. So to play it requires a keyboard and mouse attached. In my case I have the Pendo Pad Bluetooth keyboard and a USB mouse. The Pendo Case is a case with Bluetooth keyboard in it as well. http://www.target.com.au/p/pendo-pad-8-windows-bluetooth-keyboard-case/56510317 But even with that you still need to carry a mouse. If you are happy to carry a small Bluetooth or USB keyboard and mouse around with you, then it would be fine for a quick game, but if you are after a touch based experience like on iOS and Android, for now you are out of luck. . . However....... Having said all that, it must be kept in mind that Microsoft have purchased Mojang just a few weeks ago, and as a result they now own Minecraft. I personally think the chances are pretty high that we might see Minecraft make it to the Windows Store under the Microsoft banner as a result. The only reason we never saw Minecraft on the Windows Store in the past is because Notch personally has a thing against the Windows Store. (Bing search it for his outspoken attitude on the Windows Store and its inclusion in Windows 8) Now that Notch can be overruled on that decision, it makes sense to me that Microsoft would want to bring such a huge hit as Minecraft to the Windows Store rather quickly. Time will tell if I am right or wrong on that one. But we can keep fingers crossed either way. So to play it requires a keyboard and mouse attached. In my case I have the Pendo Pad Bluetooth keyboard and a USB mouse. you could however create on screen keys and buttons to emulate an xbox controller or mouse there is alot of software that could do that and one of them is gestureworks https://gameplay.gestureworks.com/how-it-works It has actually got me tempted to replace my current media player PC with one of these for that reason. It will do everything the current my media player PC does, but it will use a hell of a lot less power at the same time. While taking up a lot less space to boot. even better if you can chrome cast it and use the tablet as a remote aside from the lacking ram and storage it still offers the same quad core as the other baytrail tablets in the market so single task performance wise it wont be so bad but the good thing about this tablet is the availability of IO. every other tablet especially of this size does not have a separate power jack and usb port so it means that you can ether charge or connect a USB device and not both unlike this tablet and what makes this better is that it has a HDMI out i wonder if anyone is willing to sacrifice their tablet to see if the ram is soldered on or if it uses a sodimm that is upgradeable. give it 2GB and a nice fat 32/64/128GB microSD and its all good i wonder if anyone is willing to sacrifice their tablet to see if the ram is soldered on or if it uses a sodimm that is upgradeable. give it 2GB and a nice fat 32/64/128GB microSD and its all good SODIMM or soldered it does not make a difference with this tablet. The Atom Z3735E CPU will only support to a maximum of 1GB of RAM, so even if you could put more RAM in the CPU cannot use it. It is an artificial limit put in place by Intel on the E variant of this Atom CPU. The D variant for example can take 2GB of ram. So far only having 1GB of ram doesn't seem to be making any huge impact to performance however with my playing around. Oi Area51 I got one today, couldn't help myself, just to have a look and play. 5.97Gb free space before updating. 750MB 41 updates to install from Windows update from the get go.(local account) I see what you mean about the gritty/grippy screen protector on swiping, I've taken the top protective cover off and noticed there's the actual screen protector on it, unfortunately it's (like all of them I'm sure) poorly applied and lifting on both sides but I can see past that. I've applied Mr.Sheen to that and am letting it dry whilst it updates. I did walk into DSE and took a gander at Toshiba's Encore wasn't impressed on the price, then JB and they only had the Lenovo 1.3Ghz 32Gb with no much else for $299. One other thing I can recommend, which I forgot to mention yesterday. Go into your UEFI Setup and reduce the amount of RAM dedicated to video. I went into UEFI setup on mine and reduced it from 128MB to 64MB. With the internal graphics and on such a small tablet you are unlikely to need the extra RAM for graphics use. 64MB is not a lot, but when you only have a total of 1GB in the machine, an extra 64MB available to Windows still helps a little bit. While I was in there I also took the opportunity to disable secure boot. I will backup the Windows Install on the drive later on and I plan to give Linux a try on the beastie for curiosities sake. Then I will reinstall Windows as a WIMBoot installation and see how much space I can free up on the drive. I think that'll depend on windows8 handling it, can the machinery device driver software currently run on windows8? there's power requirement issues too I'd expect but may not be in your case if it's powered. There seems to be reports that it works on other specific hardware so you may have some luck. I've just googled RS232 to usb OTG and got some hits but who knows with your setup. I'd be interested in the outcome if you do try it. On a side note I'm liking what I'm getting out of the tablet, it's refreshing. Downsides included. Will definitely get a KB/case. I've used a micro HDMI cable from my Nokia phone/s to my TV and streamed stuff from my desktop to it, it just could do with a decent KB and mouse. Yes – the software is compatible with W8 (unbelievable I know!) so I suspect I might be in luck. The converter does require power via the USB side, however a powered USB hub of good quality which does not draw power from the host may help – I have one on my Raspberry Pi which works exactly as described. Thanks Corbin, if I try this I'll definitely let everyone know via this thread. P.S. the reason this tablet has caught my attention is due to its availability of a power supply while still making available the USB – little ripper of a device. Well for those interested in looking for a kb & mouse (kinda), I can tell you now that I'm loving this more than I expected. <bit of background > I declined on purchasing the KB case cover when buying the tablet and have had a ball with it, but it does need a KB & mouse to get the best experience from it. I've tried a my finger and a stylus but god it needed more because of miss presses or not so accurate wrong selections. So I had a look around and cam up with small BT kb's, entertained the idea of wired kb and mouse. In the end I settled on one device but it had to be good at both functions no compromise either. In comes Logitech k400r. Hell yes it's a good/great typing feel and the touchpad OMFG yes. Nowhere do I feel it's cheap and nowhere do I find typing or mouse work feel terrible. OK it's no case/cover nor is it as tiny as the tablet, but it does it's job well and that's all I really care about. The KB isn't massive at all and is a separate item but I'll put up with that considering I'm at complete ease with it. Even scrolling it great lol. Now I can use KB shortcuts which i sorely miss. $45 Office Works I don't mind. I also noticed the had Targus universal covers and it did fit well but the bands that hold each corner the top left actually covers the windows and vol. keys which rules that out. my only wish is if it could have been an option for a ergo-KB in this style, not the MSoft one available but meh! I'm cruising now typing this on it. worth a look for anyone interested. I just used the usb otg, connected the wireless transceiver, and it just started working no drivers no software needed. Well I have backed up the recovery image to a USB drive. Now doing a reset back to factory and will then rerun Windows Update, then capture Windows into a WIMBoot image. I did this on my Surface RT back in April, and in fact wrote a walkthrough on how to do it for another forum. The process on this tablet should be pretty much the same. I will post my results when done and post the walkthrough here. BTW For anyone who doesn't know what WIMBoot is, here is a good explanation. http://www.howtogeek.com/196416/wimboot-explained-how-windows-can-now-fit-on-a-tiny-16-gb-drive / anybody got a couple micro sd cards of various sizes laying around? need to find out what size max we can use !!! I have a 32GB card in mine at the moment. I will pull the 64GB microSD card out of my Surface RT and try tomorrow. (Going to bed now so not trying tonight) one last thing, after windows updated i have a huge 1.7gb of speed space :| I will see what I get out a WIMBoot installation. I am hoping to improve that to at least 10GB's free. Should have a report on that one tomorrow night. (Windows update is running at the moment on the tablet after a factory reset) Ok a quick update on the WIMBoot situation. I have successfully gotten a test WIMBoot install working. Took me longer than expected. Mainly due to me forgetting small steps while glossing over the Surface RT WIMBoot tutorial I wrote in April instead of reading the whole thing properly. I have not done any optimization yet, I just captured the running Windows image straight to a WIMBoot file without doing any clean up. I now have 5.44GB free space on the system drive. (That is with all latest Windows Updates installed BTW) Quite an improvement for a start, but I think I can improve that with some minor optimization as I just reused a lot of the same settings I used on my Surface RT tutorial. For now I just wanted to confirm it would work fine with the steps I used to do it. Next step is to do some optimization work and reduce the size of the image, and recover as much wasted space as I can. For anyone interested here is my tutorial I wrote for the Surface RT in April http://forums.mydigitallife.info/threads/52931-Windows-8-1-Update-1-WimBOOT-discussion?p=908226&viewfull=1#post908226 Most of the steps there are the same as this tablet. However please note that there are a few very important changes required to configuration files. When I have done some more experimenting and optimised the install as much as I can I will detail them here. EDIT: Oh and on the MicroSD card subject from Yesterday. I just now pulled my Sandisk Class 10 64GB Micro SDXC card out of my Surface RT and plugged into the Pendo Pad. It worked fine. So up to 64GB MicroSD cards are confirmed working. Cheers Area51 looking good, on a side note can someone give me any tips to fix the Power button not putting the tablet to sleep? I have in the power settings 'what the power button' does, it's set to sleep but for the life of me it's not working, nothing happens when I press it only if i hold it to turn the thing off. windows key works as it should so does the volume buttons. I might as a last resort Factory reset if nothing works. Might do a image of the system for safe keeping or at least gear up to install something else. I know it played 1080P MKV rips using Media Player Classic without any problems so it has the CPU power required to handle it. I can't find any specs but a video review i saw stated it had intel hd graphics so if thats the case it should be more than capable of 1080p and bitstreaming hd sound. I'm assuming that being a full version of 8.1 on there it should pick up my logitech wireless keyboard and mouse. i am seriously considering getting one to hook up to my monitor and use as a computer but the 1gb ram might be an issue. Found this on another thread (teach me to use a Windows Tablet) and thought it was handy: whrl.pl/Rd6IAl and sites open in desktop mode, which is not always desirable. IE, Tools (Cog right top), Internet option, Program tab, Choose how to open links. Edit: Is this what is termed a "Cross Post"? if so apologies..... it actually runs quite pleasantly http://img.acianetmedia.com/i/8o6rB.jpg I notice that under 'Pen and Touch' it states 'Limited Touch Support with 10 Touch Points'. On my desktop with external Dell ST2340T touchscreens, I have 'Full Windows Touch Support with 10 Touch Points'. My Acer W510 has 'Full Windows Touch Support with 5 Touch Points'. So, in what way is the Pendo 'limited' touch-wise? That seems strange for a purpose-designed Windows tablet. I've just come back from Coles and they definitely have a 7" Windows 8.1 device for $89. The part number on the box is: PNDPPW81Q716BLK. I was also at Target, and they have a very similar one for $79. It has a slightly different part number, but I actually used it and it is most definitely Windows 8. The screen looked good, and responsiveness was good too. But that's all I could test in the shop because they had no Internet access at the time. Target also have the 8 inch model that this thread was originally about for $179. The Pendo website has no details on the two 7" devices, just the 8" device. I've just come back from Coles and they definitely have a 7" Windows 8.1 device for $89. That's interesting. I will have to keep my eyes open for those ones. The Target store that I visited on Thursday did not have the 7" W8.1 device (Edwardstown SA). Just sux not having it whilst sitting on the couch, kinda why I like the N7 tablet, that's flawless. yeah jeez, how much more expensive was a Nexus 7 though? :) as for chrome on Windows, I believe it is (probably rather intentionally, thanks to google) an unoptimized pile of rubbish on Windows PC's that use ATOM processors, since i'm guessing the Android version of it doesn't suffer these performance problems on said processors? as for if IE is smoother playing back videos because of not using flash the answer is no (usually), Windows 8 includes Flash for use by IE10-11 and it is kept updated by the OS. Please bare with me, completely clueless when it comes to Windows and Whirlpool. So, my son needs a Windows tablet for high school next year. He already has an android tablet for apps and YouTube etc and is hoping to get a Windows laptop to play Minecraft on with his birthday and Christmas money. So basically I don't want to spend a great deal on this 3rd electronic device because a) it's only going to be used at school and b) has the high possibility of getting pretty badly treated whilst living in the backpack of a 12 year old boy. Went to JB HIFI yesterday evening and salesman proceeds to tell me that the only 2 options in the store that I could go with were the Asus T100 or the Surface Pro 3. Apparently this is because of the wifi bandwidth or something that the school uses and these being the only 2 tablets that can hook up to this particular wifi... (The school using 5 instead of 2? Or something along the lines of this?) Which is strange because the school teacher I have been talking with is currently using a Dell Venue 8 (which jb hifi also sell according to their website) at school? Anyway I'm really not keen on spending >$1000 on the Surface Pro or even $500 on the Asus if I could get away with around $200 for the Pendo...? Does anyone know if this device will be suitable? Thanks, and please be gentle haha Just questioned the computer technology teacher from the school about the WiFi and this was the response I got "What a load of rubbish! >:D Please take anything said by a salesperson with a large grain of salt because often they are trying to push a certain device. EVERY Windows tablet (with Windows 8, 8.1 and 7) will work with our wifi! The Dell Venue 8 has not missed a beat for me." You still have to take into consideration the fact it's sold at Target. That's a big plus for a Chinese Tab ! I too would have liked a more powerful Baytrail processor and more ram and hdd space.. All in all, the price at target at $179 is pretty much spot on, even compared to sellers like Banggood. Once you factor in having to send it back for repairs and shipping when you first purchased it, Target is a good safe option ! The Voyo A1 is considered the best cheap 8" Win 8.1 tab available, so the fact its sold bricks and mortar is awesome ! I noticed that the higher spec Voyo A1 also has the 64bit version Windows 8.1 Bing installed, apparently the higher spec is required. That is the 7" one mentioned in the last couple of pages. Here are a couple of tips relating to the Pendo 7" Windows 8.1 with Bing: 1. Change the screen resolution to its native mode (1024x600). It then looks much, much better. Edit: You won't be able to run Apps in this mode but when you RDP to the Pendo, you will be able to do so (see below). 2. Use RDP to interact with it. Note: There is no Remote Desktop Server available in Windows 8.1 with Bing. However, you can get it to work if you have a Windows 8.1 Pro (or higher) Product Key. Just go to Control Panel/System/Add features to Windows 8.1 and start at "I already have a product key" and take it from there. When you then go to Control Panel/System/Remote Access you will see that the section that lets you enable remote access is now available. Oh, and finally, if your WLAN connection is of type "Public", the Windows Firewall on the Pendo will block incoming RDP connection requests, so you need to set your WLAN connection type to "Private". There are plenty of postings on how to do this already on the Internet. Hint: use gpedit.msc Been following this thread for about a week. After seeing Area 51's great YouTube review, started looking at various Win 8.1 tablets. Pendo was best for the price. Bought the Pendo Pad 8" Win 8.1 from target for $179 and the Pendo keyboard folio for $40. Took the keyboard folio back for a refund for 3 reasons: 1. spacebar didn't work; 2. keyboard too small for fast typing; 3. folio too tight for tablet – tablet started coming apart when I started removing it from the folio, just as well I noticed it in time. This tablet is pretty good for the money. So far so good. Wife wants to use Powerpoint, but I'm not sure how it would work on the tablet. Does anyone know if Powerpoint in the free 1 year Office 365 Personal works on the desktop on in the metro/modern start screen? If it works on the desktop, how is it with the touchscreen? Eventually, for some things we'll probably want to use a keyboard, a mouse and a usb drive. Would an unpowered hub be okay or would that drain the battery too quickly? BTW, why isn't there a 'Windows Tablets' section in Whirlpool's Mobile forum? Just got the pendo pad 7 Windows from Coles, and it is like a gazillion times better than the dual core android version which I replaced. It is a steal at the price of $89. If anybody has had a bad experience with pendo in the past, give them a second chance as this is a massive improvement. Is this the same version from AUS post? If it is does it also come with an office 365 subscription? The office is what I am after. I'll take a free tablet with it. Besides, url give me a very low power option for some Windows tasks that I like to have available 24/7. I've been on the search for a similar Windows Tablet as the PendoPad 8 at Target and found this (basically $20 more) but what's everybody's view on this? Why not get the Pendo pad 8? There's still stock (At least at my Target, I know they have 3)... And it's still $179.... If you don't want a Pendo, at least go with someone who is known to deliver, like BangGood ! I think I stuffed up the OS on my Pendo 7". Bought a Mini HDMI to HDMI cable. Hooked it up to my TV but Window's couldn't detect the 2nd display. I stuffed up by accidentally setting Display 2 as my main display and Saving it! My tablet's screen was then turned off as it's thinking I've connected to Display 2 but I can't see anything ! Grabbed a paperclip so I could reset the tablet. Had a look in the BIOS to do a Windows Recovery but couldn't find it. Mucked around with the BIOS trying to boot UEFI or Windows Boot Manager without much luck. Now when I turn on the tablet the Pendo logo appears and a swirly circle is down the bottom (I'm assuming it's "loading") but afterwards it just goes to a black screen. Anyway to fix this? :-( Also noticed the HP Stream 8" in the Dick Smith Catalogue ($199), seems there will be plenty to choose from soon. Dick Smith also has the ACER W1-810 32GB Windows 8.1 Tablet for $199 after trade-in. Don't know what you can trade-in though. Perhaps a panadol tablet?). http://www.dicksmith.com.au/tablets-accessories/acer-w1-810-32gb-windows-8-tablet-dsau-ta8076 Anyone know why I am not given the option to remove the recovery partition once I have created the media? That precious 5GB is all I need otherwise I'll be returning it as after updates and Office, there is less than a gig for data and other apps. Is your Windows install a WIMBoot install? (Check in Disk manager and it will say WIMBoot in the main partition info if it is) If it is WIMBoot you cannot remove the recovery partition as that is where your Windows files reside. But fear not with WIMBoot the 5GB of the recovery partition is not wasted, it is actually saving you space as your important Windows system files are not duplicated on the main partition and are kept in the compressed WIM File.
